Haiti, our first field

Haiti is the first territory where HASDI is establishing itself. The organisation's mandate is to respond wherever in the world a humanitarian crisis or natural disaster demands it; it is in Haiti, where needs are among the most acute, that it is launching its first programmes.

A demanding humanitarian context

Haiti is going through a multidimensional crisis that deeply affects the living conditions of its population. Insecurity and armed violence, particularly in the metropolitan area of Port-au-Prince, cause internal displacement and hinder access to essential services.

This situation is compounded by the resurgence of cholera, persistent food insecurity and high exposure to natural disasters — earthquakes, hurricanes and floods — which regularly strike the country. Weakened health and education systems struggle to meet needs.

This is the context in which HASDI operates: significant humanitarian needs, constrained access, and local actors who, despite these difficulties, continue to work alongside affected populations.

How we work

HASDI designs, funds and steers its programmes from France, in accordance with Article 22 of its statutes. Implementation on the ground is entrusted to local Haitian partners bound to the association by formal agreements, selected and monitored by the association.

Each agreement sets out the objectives of the programme, the activities to be carried out, the allocated budget and the partner's reporting obligations. The association oversees the execution of the programmes it has defined: regular monitoring, review of narrative and financial reports, and document-based verification.

This way of working allows HASDI to act where needs are greatest, drawing on its partners' knowledge of the field, while retaining full control over the design, funding and steering of its programmes.
